In the world of freelance writing, it's common to encounter a "feast or famine" situation wherein there aren't enough hours in a day, or nothing is happening. For the past several years, however, Steven has managed to keep himself writing whether working on the occasional clip for a newspaper, writing for school, or working on books with his good friend and co-author, Dr. Erik A. Fisher. Dr. Fisher is a licensed clinical psychologist with a successful practice in Atlanta, Georgia.
Most recently, Dr. Fisher, Diane Wichman (M.S. Psychology), and Steven collaborated to compose The Art of Empowered Parenting: The Manual You Wish Your Kids Came with. The Art of Empowered Parenting will be released by Nitro (an imprint of Synergy Publishing) in the summer of 2007. The book brings many aspects of understanding the value and importance of maintaining a respectful and equitable relationship between parents and children. Dr. Fisher and Ms. Wichman have about thirty years of combined experience in working with children, parents, and families. Fisher and Wichman's expertise along with Steven's writing ability were fused to bring about a powerful book in an interesting, easy to follow manner. Although the vast knowledge Fisher and Wichman have accumulated in their years of experience can sometimes lead to complicated ideas and thoughts, the book has been written at a tenth grade level and is infused with many examples and plain-language that makes the ideas accessible to the average person.
Before The Art of Empowered Parenting, Dr. Fisher and Steven first co-authored The Art of Managing Everyday Conflict:Understanding Emotions and Power Struggles. They worked on this project between 2002-2003. The book was published by Greenwood Publishing Group in April 2004. The Art of Managing Everyday Conflict presents Dr. Fisher's observations and thoughts regarding conflicts as they relate to matters of personal power. Additionally, the book extensively explains the purpose of emotions and how they motivate our thoughts and actions. As is true of The Art of Empowered Parenting, The Art of Managing Everyday Conflict contains ideas and thoughts that may seem complicated, at first, but this book was also written at a ninth or tenth grade level and contains many real-life examples, exercises, and illustrations. The book is available through Barnes & Noble and through Amazon. For more information about the book, visit the book's website Here.
Along with these two books, Steven has found time to write several newspaper articles that have appeared in "This Week" which is a circular that is distributed throughout Wisconsin as a supplement to the newspaper. "To See or Not to See," an article weighing the pros and cons of LASIK vision correction and "Less is More" dealing with Earth-friendly gardening practices both appeared in this publication, and the full articles are available by following the "Sample" button at the top of this page. Aside from these writing pursuits, Steven also moderates a message forum online for writers.
